Letterman’s Former Assistant NOT Banned From CBS Set

TMZ reported that David Letterman’s former assistant Stephanie Birkitt has been banned from the CBS set but according to a spokesman for Letterman this is NOT true, adding “Stephanie is on a paid leave of absence”.

According to TMZ:

TMZ has learned Stephanie Birkitt — the woman at the center of the David Letterman sex scandal — has been banned from setting foot on the CBS set where the “Late Show” is filmed.

Birkitt used to be David’s assistant — appearing on the “Late Show” numerous times — and later became his personal attorney. It was Birkitt’s ex-boyfriend — Robert Halderman — who discovered Letterman’s secret relationship with her … and then allegedly threatened to release the scandalous information unless Letterman forked over $2 million.

Sources tell TMZ that security at CBS is well aware of Birkitt’s ban from the set.

Worldwide Pants just issued the following statement: “Stephanie is on paid leave of absence … she has not been banned from the Ed Sullivan Theatre.”

But TMZ just spoke with someone associated with security at Letterman who just told us, “Security got a verbal order that she is ‘banned’ from the property for the time being.”

David Letterman Defends Himself

David Letterman Defends Himself

As reported by Perez Hilton:

David Letterman has responded to Sarah Palin’s accusation that he suggested “sexually exploiting” her 14-year-old daughter.

Letterman explained that he was in fact referring to her very legal daughter, Bristol, and not her younger sister, Willow, when he joked that one of the Palins was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez at a Yankees game, saying, “I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl. I mean, look at my record. It has never happened. I don’t think it’s funny. I would never think it was funny. I wouldn’t put it in a joke.”

Letterman added, “Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was OK for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No.”

And further proving his “poor taste” he added, “Governor Palin, if you’re watching, I would like you to consider coming to New York City – you and Todd as my guests, or leave Todd at home.”

Update (Jun 16th) as reported by Perez Hilton:

This morning, Sarah Palin officially accepted David Letterman’s second apology for his “improper” jokes he made about her daughter.

She says, “Of course it’s accepted on behalf of young women, like my daughters, who hope men who ‘joke’ about public displays of sexual exploitation of girls will soon evolve. Letterman certainly has the right to ‘joke’ about whatever he wants to, and thankfully we have the right to express our reaction.”
